The 30th edition of the Andrea Margutti Trophy, April 5th-6th-7th at South Garda Karting in Lonato.
The Andrea Margutti Trophy is one of the most important events in international karting, a race that keeps being highly successful with the participation of all the main teams and strongest drivers since its first edition.
The first edition in 1990.
The first edition of the Andrea Margutti Trophy was held back in 1990, following the tragic passing of Andrea Margutti, a young karting rising star that passed away at 14 years of age in an incident at the Trofeo delle Industrie in Parma. Since then, the Margutti family and all Andrea’s peers like Trulli and Fisichella pushed for an event to be run in his memory.
The first two editions of the Andrea Margutti Trophy were run at the Pista d’Oro in Rome, but then Andrea’s mum Patrizia, in agreement with the Pellegrini family, decided to move the Trophy to Parma, that was deemed as the best place for an event that was getting more and more interest on the international karting scene.
Nineties have been very important for karting and the Margutti Trophy gained an important place on the international karting scene, as if it was a World Championship. This success was confirmed in the 2000s and the race become an unmissable appointment for all the karting racers competing at international level.
A world class event.
After so many editions, we can now say that the Margutti Trophy is the race that has grown the most in the world of karting.
No other initiative in the memory of a perished athlete as ever managed to gain such an importance.
The recipe for this success has initially been a strong affection from the whole karting world to the Margutti family and the sharing of a karting passion in the due respect of Andrea, but nowadays these feelings have evolved in the awareness that every driver has to partake in a great “classic” event on the international scene.
The race has relocated to the South Garda Karting circuit in Lonato in 2012. The modern karting “temple” is the best venue to guarantee to the Andrea Margutti Trophy those figures and the prestige that has been recognized worldwide over the years.
